SLA | HSLA | Dance leaders
Special Entry Requirements
These courses are available to all students on full time courses at the college. Students progressing to HSLA- Level 3 Sports Leaders should have successfully completed the level 2 qualification.
Sports Leaders UK qualifications are offered at levels 2 & 3 and are all 1 year courses.
These qualifications are designed to use sport and physical activity to help young people develop and hone their leadership skills whilst helping themselves and others stay physically active.
Students undertaking a qualification in Sports Leadership will learn and demonstrate important life skills such as effective communication and organisation whilst learning to lead basic physical activities to younger people, their peers, older generations and those with additional learning needs within the community.
The courses involve both guided and peer-to-peer learning and supervised leadership to ensure that learners have all the skills they need to lead basic physical activities to other people.
The level 2 course comprises of 1 lesson per week, evidenced in a personal learning record. Students make a huge commitment to supporting the primary and secondary schools sports partnership events. A minimum of 10 additional volunteering hours are required to complete the course.
The level 3 course comprises of 2 lessons per week building on the experiences gained at level 2. The Higher Sports Leaders deliver the Scarborough school home educated PE programme, support the work of North Yorkshire Sports Special Educational Needs sports events and adopt a high profile within S6F running whole college fund raising and sports events. Learners are required to evidence 30 volunteering hours. The course carries 16 UCAS points.
Dance Leaders is another level 2 leadership qualification open to students interested in dance. It runs as part of the enrichment programme comprising of 1 hour per week. The sessions use dance to teach young people how to lead physical activity sessions and develop their employability skills.
Students develop choreographic and organisational skills allowing them to lead in our local community, at college events and shows accruing a minimum of 10 volunteering hours.
Continuous assessment of set tasks evidenced through a personal learner record. A minimum of 10 additional volunteering hours are required at Level 2 and 30 volunteering hours at level 3.
