Subject Intent

This course aims to equip our students with the skills, knowledge, values, and resilience to make a positive contribution to the world in which they live. A broad, balanced, and inclusive programme will develop positive attitudes towards healthy active lifestyles and help our students to become confident lifelong learners through sport.

It will act as a stepping stone to a range of occupations inspiring many to establish careers in this sector either progressing to our Level 3 qualification or directly into the workplace.

Course Introduction

This course is for students who love sport. They enjoy taking part, watching, reading and talking about it. You do not need to be a brilliant performer, just willing to give it your best effort and be happy to work with others as part of a team.

Course Modules

The programme runs over one year. Students complete four units:

  • Participating in Sport
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Health, Exercise & Nutrition
  • Plus, one optional unit

The course contains both practical and theoretical elements, with students developing a portfolio of work. You will gain and develop essential skills that are valued by employers as well as higher and further education institutions.

Assessment

The course is 100% internally assessed. There are no exams. Each unit comprises of a series of assignments and a range of assessment methods such as analytical reports, presentations, practical assessments using a range of technology in our well-resourced sports department.
