Media - BTEC Diploma

Special Entry Requirements:

You will need to meet the level 3 BTEC entry requirements.

Course Introduction:

Over the two year course, you will be working in print and photography as well as planning, filming and editing moving image. Throughout you will use a range of cameras and our green screen as well as professional editing software including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects for editing moving images.

The BTEC Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels.

Media Level 3 BTEC Transition Pack – We have created a transition pack on our website to show you the kind of work that you will be doing at level 3 and to help you prepare for September.

Course Modules:

You will have a mixture of classroom-based lessons, group work, practical sessions and the chance for independent study. BTEC units are always built around an industry scenario and the work follows the path of research, planning and production. You will take on the roles of people who work in the media such as producer, director, editor and camera operator, and learn to use a full range of equipment such as cameras, lighting and the green screen. You will also learn how to research a production, create a storyboard and plan a production. In this course the emphasis is on learning to work in a professional way, and you will work both by yourself and with other students.
At the end of the first year, you will gain a Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Creative Media Production, completing your Diploma in the second year.

  • Film and Video Editing Techniques
  • Television Advertising
  • Music Video Production
  • Media Industries including Netflix and the gaming sector

Career Opportunities:

The BTEC qualifications are recognised by universities and therefore successful completion will enable students to continue their studies in higher education on a related course such as film production, television and media or journalism.
