Laboratory science is one of the largest employment sectors in the UK, and includes sciences such as drugs and pharmaceuticals, biomedical sciences, food science, forensics, dental, health and physical sciences. Our Level 2 Technical Diploma in Laboratory Science is ideal if you enjoyed lab-based science at school and want to start a career in laboratory science.
The course will increase your knowledge of laboratory practices as well as developing all the skills and behaviours expected by employers in the science laboratory sector. The areas you will cover include:
- Laboratory health and safety
- Working in a science laboratory
- Assisting the work of a laboratory
- Preparing and clearing down a laboratory
- Handling scientific data
- Applications of laboratory techniques
You will also develop your broader skills in literacy and numeracy, communication, research and teamwork.
Assessment is a mixture of coursework and external assessment.
The types of careers you could go into include Science Technician, Health Science Laboratory Assistant, Pharmaceutical Laboratory Assistant, Food Science Laboratory Assistant.
