About Scarborough Sixth Form College
We are a medium sized provider of A Levels, BTECs, CACHE and GCSEs in Scarborough. We have approximately 1100 students mainly aged between 16-18, as well as some mature students. Our mission is:
“To provide excellent service to our community, by achieving outstanding educational progress,
and developing the personal and social skills of all our students.”
We are extremely proud to be one of the top colleges in the country for A Level and Vocational value added – the measure used by the Department for Education for student progress. This means that students studying with us make more progress and achieve higher grades in comparison to other schools and colleges nationally which is something that Ofsted commented on in September 2016:
“…teachers have well-developed approaches that ensure almost all students achieve well
above the level suggested by their prior attainment.”
We have a strong emphasis on helping students move from dependence to independence in a supportive environment. All students are allocated a Guidance Support Tutor (GST) to support them during their time here. Our GSTs monitor attendance and behaviour while at the same time encouraging students to develop as individuals and preparing them for the next stage after college.
We have invested heavily in buildings and resources over the last few years resulting in a modern university-type feel. The new facilities have allowed us to expand our range of courses and the flexibility we offer means that students can mix and match nearly any combination of courses to create a bespoke study programme to suit them and their career.
We work closely with The Academy Hair & Beauty College to ensure that students in Scarborough are able to choose from a range of courses without having to travel. Students can choose to study Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy with our partner provider, The Academy, who has a training salon in Scarborough.
