Celebrating Student Achievements at Awards Evening

Jan 11, 2012

More than 400 former students and their parents attended Scarborough Sixth Form’s annual Certificate and Awards Evening on Monday 19th December.

More than 400 former students and their parents attended Scarborough Sixth Form’s annual Certificate and Awards Evening on Monday 19th December.  The students, most of whom have just finished their first term at university and who achieved record results in their A Levels and BTEC Nationals in the summer, came back to celebrate their success and to collect their certificates.  Forty students also collected an award for the progress they made at College.  Robbie Pickering was awarded the Whitaker College Community Cup for the extra mile he went both in college and the wider community to involve students in sport, and Jamie Nunn was awarded the Principal’s Achievement Cup which is given to the student who has made the most progress whilst at College. Jamie came from Scarborough College with modest GCSE success in 2009 and is now studying International Communication with Chinese at Nottingham University.

Former Scalby School and Scarborough Sixth Form student, Harry Clapham, who is now an International Manager for HSBC based in Panama, gave an inspiring talk, giving advice about how to get the most out of university and plan a career. Tom Potter, Principal, said that Harry gave an excellent presentation building on the College’s aim to ensure students and former students make the very best of opportunities that arise and not only gain strong qualifications but are also proactive in developing their personal and social skills.

All former students are encouraged to keep in contact with the College either by joining the Facebook group or emailing admissions@s6f.org.uk

"I am very happy with my son’s experience here and hope that my other children come here too."
