Fiona or Carlton will be in the library to help you between 12.30pm and 1.00pm each day.

The library is open from 8.30am to 4.45pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.15pm Friday

A wide selection of books and information on all the subjects taught in College, to help you with your studies.
An extensive and ever changing collection of new and classic fiction to read for pleasure.
Online resources to assist you in your research.
We also have . . .
A range of magazines and periodicals which will be of use to your studies – including New Scientist, History Today, Empire, The Economist, and Philip Allan Reviews for many subjects.
A selection of major daily newspapers: The Guardian, Independent, Telegraph and The Times.
Printing, Photocopying & Scanning
A Colour/Black & White printer/photocopier/scanner is available for use by students:
A4 Black & White copies – 2p A4 Colour copies – 20p
A3 Black & White copies – 20p A3 Colour copies – £1.00
The costs of printing and photocopying are deducted from your print credit.
Print credit may be added using the Coin Operated Credit Meter situated on the lower floor of the Library.
Scanning is free of charge, unless you decide to print the document out – cost as for printing.
Other Library Facilities
Two computers are available on the lower floor of the library for students or staff with limited mobility.
You may use these computers if none are available elsewhere, but please be prepared to give priority to students or staff who can’t use the stairs.
Stationery Shop
A selection of stationery – pens, pencils, highlighters, rulers and much more – is available to purchase at the library desk.
Trip Money and Other Payments
Trip money and other payments may be paid in at the library desk between 8.30am and 3.15pm each day.
Please write your name, student number and the name of the trip being paid for on the back of your cheque.
If paying by cash, please try to bring the correct change wherever possible.
How do I Borrow Books?
Simply select your books and bring them to the library desk.
You will be asked for your student number and the books will be issued to your account.
How Many Books Can I Borrow?
You may borrow up to TEN items at a time.
This can be any combination of books, text books, DVDs, audio books or CDs.
How Long Can I Have Them?
The usual loan period is two weeks – although DVDs and some Art books are overnight loan only.
Text books are issued as a long-term loan until after the summer exams.
Some reference books may also be borrowed overnight. Just ask at the library desk.
Overdue Books
Fines are charged at a rate of 5p per item per day overdue. Please remember to return your books promptly as fines can quickly mount up.
Online Resources
The Library Page of the college intranet contains links to many useful resources.
- CREDO REFERENCE searches through 540 published
reference books for reliable information, and can be accessed from home as well
as from any computer in college. - ISSUES
gives access to a wealth of useful information and resources about
today’s social issues. - eclipse.net –
Log in to your library account with your student number and computer
password to check your loans, overdues and to reserve books. - ebrary gives you access to over 3,000 academic
e-books for Further Education. - Philip Allan Reviews gives you access to
hundreds of back issues across 14 A-level subjects.
Library Code of Behaviour
Please respect the right of others to work quietly. If your conversation can be heard at the library desk it is too loud.
You will be asked to keep noise levels down so as not to disturb other students and staff.
PLEASE WORK QUIETLY SO THAT EVERYONE MAY CONCENTRATE ON THEIR TASKS
Eating is not permitted anywhere in the library. Please DO NOT BRING FOOD of any kind into the library – even at lunchtime.
BOTTLED WATER only is allowed – downstairs only – and preferably in a pull-top, spill-proof bottle.
Please do not take food or drink into the computer area upstairs.
Personal Stereos, iPods and MP3 players can be used in the library provided they can be heard only by the person wearing them.
MOBILE PHONES should not be allowed to ring in the library. You may, however, talk quietly or text on one.
COMPUTERS – Should be used for college work only, in accordance with the College IT Acceptable Usage Policy.
The area next to the library desk is the ’Silent Area’ and is for quiet, private study.
AEROSOL SPRAYS – Due to potential allergic reactions, please do not spray aerosols, perfumes or deodorants in the library.
CHAIRS AND TABLES are set out for safety reasons and for disabled access. PLEASE DO NOT RE-POSITION THEM.
There should be no more than four people around a large table; two per small table.
