Financial Support for Students
Money matters can be a major concern facing a student when deciding whether or not to come to college. Students and their families may be entitled to some form of financial support. Eligibility often depends upon household income and / or personal circumstances.

Support For Students Aged 19+

Scarborough United Scholarship Fund/John Kendal Trust Fund
These 2 charity funds are especially for Scarborough students.
SUSF
This applies to students aged 16-25 and have attended school in Scarborough. It awards small grants (up to £500) to support students with educational needs e.g. purchase of musical instruments or equipment, costs of specialist courses or help with university costs.
John Kendal Trust
This applies to students aged 16-18 who have attended school in Scarborough. Grants are awarded to support those living away from the parental home or where there is a single parent and financial difficulty. These grants cater for a broader range of needs e.g. contribution to meet costs of travel or living costs/purchase of domestic appliances. They are not a replacement for DSS support – more a means of emergency help to enable you to stay in education.
Application forms for both of these funds are available from Heather Campbell, the Principal’s PA.
Childcare Support
Funds are available for both 16-19 year old students and 19+ students to help with childcare costs during term-time. See Maggie Wray in Student Services for more details.
Accommodation
You may be able to obtain financial assistance from the DWP if you have to live apart from your parents because you are, for example, estranged from them. Further information (and assistance) can be obtained from our Counsellor at College.
Child Benefit
Parents can claim until a student's 20th birthday (as long as the student was enrolled on to the course before their 19th birthday and on a full-time course).
