FURTHER MATHEMATICS AS / A LEVEL

FURTHER MATHEMATICS AS / A LEVEL

Further Mathematics is a second A level in Maths. Students take Further Mathematics in addition to an A-level Mathematics course, studying an extra 6 modules. It is clearly advantageous if you intend reading maths at university, and is well respected as a fourth A-level indicating good study skills, dedication and an enquiring mind. You will be spending 9 hours in mathematics lessons each week, so a love of maths is essential!

Further Mathematics courses tend to get small numbers of students and the new specification has been designed with that in mind. If enough students enrol on the course we hope to have a separate Further Mathematics group spending two blocks together. Otherwise, students will have one block as a Further Mathematics class and one block as part of a single maths (mechanics) class. While the first option is the ideal, changes to the specification mean that the second option now works better than ever before.

AS Further Mathematics is now available as a genuine AS with the new module FP1 allocated AS status. Taking Mathematics and Further Mathematics for the L6 will produce the qualifications AS Mathematics and AS Further Mathematics
