BUSINESS BTEC LEVEL 2 EXTENDED CERTIFICATE
BUSINESS BTEC LEVEL 2 EXTENDED CERTIFICATE
The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate is a one year course that is equivalent in value to two GCSEs. It is an excellent base for advanced study, and many of our students choose to follow the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or Diploma on completion of this course.
Are there any special requirements?
No, we assume that no one has studied this subject before – although an interest in businesses and the way they function would be useful. There is no evidence to suggest that students who have studied the subject prior to enrolment perform any better than those who have not done so.
What and how will I be studying?
The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Business consists of two compulsory unit and up to four optional units.
The compulsory units are:
Business Purposes – this provides an introduction to how businesses are organised, and owned, and how they are affected by the environment in which they operate. There will be an emphasis on looking closely at businesses local to Scarborough.
Business Organisations – this examines how and why businesses set targets. It also looks at the way in which businesses organise themselves internally. For example, you will find out about how a business organises and manages its staff in order to achieve its objectives
The remaining units will be selected from the following:
|
Financial Forecasting for Business |
Business Ethics |
|
People in Organisations |
The Marketing Plan |
|
Training and Employment in Business |
Managing Personal Finances |
|
Business Online |
Promoting and Branding in Retail Business |
What skills will I need and be developing during the course?
The ability to keep well organised and to meet regular deadlines will be essential. Through the activities you will be completing you should develop your communication skills and your ability to work in groups. You will also develop confidence in making presentations and report writing. Your ICT skills will be enhanced as you will make extensive use of software packages and will use the internet for research.
How is the Course assessed?
All units are assessed entirely through coursework. The work you complete will based on evidence from real organisations and the assessments will be varied (including report writing and more practical work such as presentations and group activities).
What career opportunities are there?
On completion of this course you may:
- Choose to proceed to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or Diploma in Business – the majority of students completing this course are likely to follow this route and many will successfully proceed onto degree courses at university.
- Choose to enter employment – a number of our past students have gained jobs or enrolled on NVQs.
